Stella and Charles Guttman Community College seeks an innovative, technologically experienced, and student-focused professional to become its Chief Librarian (Associate or Full Professor). At a new institution that is dedicated to academic success and degree completion for students who typically begin college under-prepared, the successful candidate will provide strategic leadership for Guttman’s Information Commons, designing and implementing library services that will strengthen and advance its teaching and learning mission.
Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the successful candidate will work with the Office of Academic Affairs administration, faculty and staff, as well as other College and University-wide units to lead the definition, planning, implementation, and support of the library’s services and related information technologies. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to position library services (collection management, reference, and instruction) to accommodate today’s decentralized information environment to more effectively meet users’ information needs.
Minimum Qualifications include an ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS degree and an additional Master’s degree in a relevant academic field (doctorate is preferred); plus a record of scholarly and professional achievement and advancement appropriate to a senior-level faculty position.

About the College:
The Stella and Charles Guttman Community College is the City University of New York’s newest community college in 40 years. As a small start-up, Guttman Community College (formerly The New Community College) requires flexibility and a broad range of skills and competencies from candidates in every position. Located in midtown Manhattan, Guttman was established with the goal of significantly improving student learning, retention and graduation, by rethinking community college education and practice. Guttman currently offers five majors: business administration, information technology, human services, liberal arts and sciences, and urban studies, and will offer additional programs in the future. The College admitted its first cohort of 300 students in August 2012. At full capacity, Guttman will enroll 3,000 to 5,000 students.
