Systems Librarian – William Carey University – Hattiesburg, MS

Job Description Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Libraries and Learning Resources, the Systems Librarian manages and maintains the University Libraries’ information systems, including the electronic resources links, the website, and the integrated system (ILS).

Minimum Qualifications

  1. American Library Association accredited master’s degree.
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  3. Experience maintaining library information systems.
  4. Experience in creating and maintaining websites.
  5. Ability to use common office productivity software, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook). Ability to learn WCU’s accounting and student database software.
  6. Ability to respect and adhere to confidentiality requirements related to student and library records.
  7. Ability to make mathematical computations quickly and accurately.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience working in library technical services.
  2. Supervisory experience.

Physical Demands

  1. Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting, and to use standard office equipment including a computer and 10-key calculator
  2. Must have vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone
  3. Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
  4. Must have strength and agility to move files, paper boxes, minor office equipment, and to shelve books
  5. Must have ability to lift and carry 25 pounds

  1. Maintains University Libraries’ electronic resource links including, but not limited to, e-databases, e-journals, and e-books.
  2. Develops and maintains the University Libraries’ website.
  3. Manages the University Libraries’ integrated system (ILS).
  4. Coordinates efforts to troubleshoot problems that arise regarding all University Libraries’ information systems and serves as the primary liaison with the University’s Information Technology Department and with system vendors.
  5. Performs copy cataloging of University Libraries’ collection materials of all formats as needed.
  6. Assists with the physical processing of University Libraries’ collection materials of all formats as needed preparing them for patron use.
  7. Serves as a library faculty member, participating in planning and evaluation of library services, and keeps informed about professional issues related to job responsibilities.
  8. Oversees evening library operations one evening per week, or as needed, providing circulation and reference assistance to patrons.
  9. Performs public service duties as needed.
  10. Assists with the training, management and supervision of Hattiesburg library student employees as needed.
  11. Performs other duties and tasks as needed to ensure normal library operations.
  12. This employee is required to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
