Library Systems and Emerging Technologies Librarian – Chattanooga State Community College – Chattanooga, TN

Position Summary
Administers the Library’s Integrated Library System and provides access to all the electronic resources (Including, but not limited to, databases, streaming media, etc.); Advises the library and other stakeholders in identifying and implementing new instructional technologies for use in the classroom and for general library use.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities
-Provides leadership and coordination of the library’s Integrated Library System (VoyagerILS) and access to its electronic resources.
-Serves as the systems administrator for the integrated library system including acquisitions, serials, cataloging, circulation, webpac, and reporting features.
-Organizes, plans, schedules, and supervises activities and personnel in the library’s technology services department; assists in budget preparation as it affects hardware, software, and technological devices.
-Trains and supervises technology services staff in technology service department.
-Compiles statistical data and reports regarding technology services.
-Coordinates services between the library and the campus IT Services.
-Reviews current literature and monitor trends in order to recommend new hardware, software and other technological solutions to support the library’s instruction program.
-Promotes, supports and participates in student recruitment and retention efforts
-Troubleshoots access problems.
-Manages EZProxy and link resolvers as it pertains to library electronic resources.
-Assists in the maintenance of the Library’s web site in working with the Web Librarian and others and helps create effective workflows and best practices for managing website updates.
-Serves as primary library contact with Campus IT Services department.
-Serves as liaison in subject appropriate academic departments
-Participates in public service desk rotation
-Participates in the library instruction program either teaching or creating reusable learning objects.
-Completes other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills
-Demonstrated ability to work in collaboratively in a team environment.

Work Experience:

-Three years full-time library work experience managing an integrated Library System and managing eresources

-Mastery in working with servers, proxy, link resolvers and other networking solutions.

-Demonstrated experience creating reusable learning objects using cutting edge technology.

-Supervisory experience

-Experience and success working in a collaborative, team environment.

-Demonstrated ability in working as a team player (collegiality a “must”

Preferred Qualifications
BA degree in information technology, information science, computer science or related field.

-Experience working with ExLibris ILS (Voyager 9)and/or ALMA/Primo

-Experience working with open source applications such as Drupal.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Work Characteristics
-Knowledge: Knowledge of supervisory principles and methods
-Library database management
– Information database search strategies (e.g., OCLC, Internet)
-Fluent in the fundamentals of Library Science including reference, cataloging, automation, information literacy instruction, and bibliographic tools.

Skills:
Skills in oral and written communication; interpersonal skills consistent with professional attributes such as maintain confidentiality, open-mindedness, collegiality, and flexibility.

The successful candidate is expected to:
-have systems management experience such as EZProxy, link resolver, and content management systems.
-be familiar with current practices, theory, and issues related to assessment, data analysis, and electronic resource access.
-have knowledge of a wide range of print and electronic information resources
-have some demonstrated teaching experience.
-experience in the design, creation and facilitation of the use of online instructional materials, tutorials and other digital learning tools that will integrate with the campus course management software system (D2L)
-Collaborate with the Coordinator of Library Instruction and other teaching librarians in advising on projects that focus on blended learning, elearning and the creation of emerging technology objects to enhanced learning environments.
-have a willingness to form strategic partnership with campus departments
-have the ability to work efficiently and effectively in a team-based environment
-have the ability to juggle multiple priorities in a busy, time-sensitive environment.
