WEST OAKVIEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
POSITION: TEACHER-LIBRARIAN (.6 FTE)
QUALIFICATIONS:
The successful candidate must possess the following…
● Appropriate certification materials, including a valid Michigan teaching certificate with Language Arts (BX),
Reading (BT), Reading Specialist (BR), or Library Media (ND)
● Strong understanding of appropriate, research-based instructional methodology for elementary students,
including read alouds, conferring, and “book whispering”
● Avid reader of children’s and middle-level books, including knowledge about authors, illustrators, and current
and historically relevant children’s literature
● Knowledge of Teachers College Units of Study for Reading and Writing (K-4), preferred
● Knowledge about utilizing and planning for effective instructional uses of technology
● Ability to maintain school library collection, including using computer management system, purchasing titles,
evaluating areas of need, and discarding outdated materials
● Ability to communicate with staff at all grade levels (pre-K-4) to support their classroom literacy instruction, as
well as serve as a literacy leader within the building
● Creative integration of literacy activities within a pre-K-4 building to foster a love of reading for students and
staff
● Ability to connect students outside of the library, including with other educators, students, authors, and
illustrators
● Provide literacy experiences for students and staff beyond regularly scheduled library classes
● Ability to work on and be a contributor to a highly professional team of teachers and staff in a building and
with teacher-librarians in other buildings
● Genuine enthusiasm, positive attitude, flexible nature, and interpersonal skills
● Commitment to lifelong learning as demonstrated by involvement in professional development opportunities,
as appropriate
