Reporting to the Collection Management Librarian, the cataloging/metadata librarian will provide leadership in the establishment and management of local metadata standards for the library’s evolving digital content initiatives. The librarian will perform original cataloging for resources in all formats in the library’s circulating and special collections, including the world-class Jane Austen Collection; will formulate policies, procedures, and training standards to expedite copy cataloging and processing of materials; and will play a critical role in evaluating and implementing potential successors to the library’s current online catalog system. The cataloging/metadata librarian will also assist in the overall service program of the library, including participating in reference and instruction, serving as liaison to one or more academic departments, and contributing to the promotion of the library and its services.
Qualified candidates must possess an ALA accredited master’s degree in Library or Information Science. The successful candidate will also have experience with MARC bibliographic formats, traditional cataloging and classification standards (e,g. RDA, DDC and LCSH), and a working knowledge of a variety of metadata standards (e.g. Dublin Core), and best practices for managing digital collections. Candidates must also possess superior communication skills, a commitment to excellence in service to users, demonstrated problem-solving and workflow-analysis skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of library and campus users. Preference will be given to applicants possessing experience with cataloging special collections materials and OCLC and local integrated library systems (preferably Millennium).
