Receive and process Middle Eastern materials in an assortment of formats in the Technical Services section of the University of Texas Libraries
Search source materials, in all formats, in OCLC and related databases to process library materials in a variety of Middle Eastern languages including Arabic and Persian. Gather bibliographic data to describe library materials using various cataloging tools. Assist with the data entry needed to make Middle East library materials accessible to students, faculty, staff and the public. Receive and check-in materials in all formats, including serials/periodicals, and process invoices for payment. Prepare periodicals for binding. Participate in Libraries’ staff development.
Other related functions as assigned.
High school graduation or GED. Four years of library experience. Reading knowledge of Arabic and/or Persian. Demonstrated ability to complete detailed work. Ability to maintain a work schedule. Initiative and flexibility with working assignments and environments. Attention to detail. Willingness to put forth an extra effort getting a task accomplished. Ability to be supervised. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Related experience working in a library. Experience working in a library’s Technical Services section. Strong knowledge of or experience in cataloging various materials within a library environment. Strong reading knowledge of both Arabic and Persian. Knowledge of or experience using acquisitions and cataloging tools such as a library management system, preferably III’s Sierra, LC classification, LC subject headings, and OCLC Connexion. Knowledge of or experience working with cataloging schemes such as AACR2 and RDA. Knowledge of or experience in receiving newly acquired library materials, processing invoices, periodicals check-in and binding preparation using a bindery software, preferably ABLE. Graduate coursework in Library and Information Science. Reading knowledge of Turkish and/or Classical Arabic, Kurdish, Azeri. Supervisory experience. Academic degree in Middle Eastern studies or related specialty. Demonstrated excellent communication and organizational skills. Experience related to the job functions listed.
