Provides technical leadership and performs a variety of duties relating to the Information Technology clinical applications, specifically Epic Beaker and related Epic applications. Responsibilities include: Providing leadership and serving as technical resource to the team; Designing, developing, testing, implementing, and evaluating information systems for the organization; Participating in planning, developing, training, implementation, and evaluation of Epic Beaker pathology information systems and custom modules to support ongoing operations and ensure development, evaluation, and ongoing support for all components of the program–California State License for Clinical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent specialty license or certificate such as a Histotechnologist, Histotechnician, or Cytotechnologist.
JOB REQUIREMENTS: –Associate or bachelor degree in Information Technology, Healthcare or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
–Epic Beaker certification preferred
–Demonstrated experience with laboratory information systems in a healthcare environment, academic institution or large integrated health system experience.
–Working experience with analysis, build, implementation and support of healthcare information systems. Laboratory system experience preferred.
–System analysis and design knowledge needed to understand functional requirements and translate these functions as applicable to computerized processing.
–Experience with application testing initiatives.
–Working knowledge of project management tools and proficiency in office automation software (word processing, spreadsheets, visual presentation such as MS Project, Visio, etc).
–Technical vocabulary including knowledge of medical terminology and basic human anatomy.
–Working knowledge and understanding of UCDHS and Department of Pathology Policies and procedures.
–Working knowledge of legislation and regulatory requirements pertaining to the pathology laboratory.
–Working knowledge of the principles of quality control and quality assurance.
–Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), National Center for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS), College of American Pathologists (CAP), and Joint Commission of Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) clinical laboratory safety regulations.
–Must be able to travel to Wisconsin to attend Epic certification training sessions.
–Required to pass Epic certification exams in two attempts within three months.
–Must be able to work variable shifts, on-call, and/or flexible hours as needed to meet committed project dates and support 24x7operations. Shifts include days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
–Must be willing to adhere to Departmental and Hospital Policies and Protocols regarding no smoking policy; dress code; tardiness; telephone etiquette and safety procedures.
