Drupal Developer – Western Washington Univeristy – Bellingham, WA

The Web Analyst/Drupal Developer is a member of the staff in Web Communication Technologies (Web Tech) and is the primary Drupal Developer and maintainer for the Western Washington University campus. The majority of marketing sites on campus are managed by Drupal, including the university homepage, the academic colleges, and critical need operational areas and departments. In addition to development and maintenance of existing web properties, a new publishing platform is currently being developed utilizing a decoupled framework.

Within the department, the developer works closely with the Director and the other WebTech web developer to uphold and improve work processes and standards. The developer also works closely with the campus accessibility expert to maintain and improve the Drupal websites. Additionally, the developer will train, manage, and direct a small group of student developers who assist with Drupal development and issues.

The developer is expected to conduct front-end and back-end development and perform security updates. The developer meets with department personnel throughout campus to design solutions and platforms for campus-wide deployment. In addition to development, the position helps train and support campus Drupal administrators by holding training sessions and producing support documentation. The developer also works closely with server administrators on server configuration and security issues.

Responsibilities:

  • Information architect for our Drupal systems
  • Implementation of accessibility-friendly front-end design for our Drupal sites
  • PHP development of modules and templates
  • Site upgrades and deployment with Aegir for security updates and bug fixes
  • Maintaining and improving our automated testing framework
  • Customer support including resolving issues, leading training courses and labs, writing end-user documentation on our website, conducting campus-wide presentations for other developers
  • Implementing solutions for custom data sources
  • Managing student developers including reviewing code, assigning work and mentoring professional work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience as a web developer or equivalent education / experience
  • Demonstrated capability as a Drupal architect
  • Experience working with clients or end-users on web development projects
  • Experience presenting trainings in technical subjects
  • Experience with Git or another version control software
  • Proven expertise with HTML5 and CSS3
  • Four years information technology work experience, with at least two of those years being in web development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience or education
  • Proficient at implementing WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility guidelines
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration systems
  • Experience writing Behat behavioral tests
  • Exposure to AngularJS
  • Comfortable working with SASS/SCSS, JS and JQuery
  • Understanding of the Aegir Hosting system
  • Experience working in academia

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Four years information technology work experience, with at least two of those years being in web development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience or education
  • Proficient at implementing WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility guidelines
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration systems
  • Experience writing Behat behavioral tests
  • Exposure to AngularJS
  • Comfortable working with SASS/SCSS, JS and JQuery
  • Understanding of the Aegir Hosting system

This is a full-time, 12 month classified staff position, including a full benefits package.  The position is available beginning September 21, 2015.  Application review begins August 24, 2015.  New hires typically begin at $4237/month.
