Social Sciences and Professional Programs Librarian, University of Minnesota

The University of Minnesota Libraries invites applications for an innovative and proactive social science librarian. We seek applicants who have subject expertise and technology skills, possess an understanding of research processes in the social sciences, and embrace lifelong learning.

The position serves as library liaison to designated academic departments and research centers affiliated with the University’s College of Liberal Arts and College of Education and Human Development. It supports the instructional, research and outreach activities of these units and forges relationships with faculty, students, instructors, and researchers offering services that respond to the University’s Strategic Plan. The Librarian also contributes to the knowledge base of the profession through research, publication, and professional engagement, as s/he works toward continuous appointment status.

Required qualifications include an American Library Association accredited Master’s degree in Library/Information Science, or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience; evidence of program development or project management skills; and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students in a research-intensive environment. Data management experience, with a demonstrated understanding of issues and technical challenges, including format migration, preservation, metadata and data retrieval is preferred.
