Lead an innovative and accomplished Kansas library system, continuing outstanding levels of service and effective resource sharing. The Executive Board of the Central Kansas Library System (headquartered in Great Bend, KS) seeks an experienced library leader—responsive to member libraries, staff, and community needs and skilled in focusing the efforts of a team of talented professionals—as its next System Director.
As director of Great Bend Public Library approximately 10 percent of the total position, the new director will work with qualified and enthusiastic department heads to provide excellent library service to Great Bend, a city of 16,000 people in the heart of Kansas. GBPL has a $750,000 budget.
1) Master of Library Science degree from a library science program accredited by the American Library Association, plus at least five years progressively responsible administrative experience. Experience in regional library systems or consortia is desirable. 2) Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects, reports, evaluation, on-going activities, and committee activities using effective planning and organizational skills. 3) Ability to mediate differences among members and evaluate diverse needs of members using creative and effective solutions. 4) Ability to work a flexible schedule as required by the needs of the system. 5) Broad understanding of library trends and issues, and knowledge of computer skills and trends in library technology. 6) Ability to operate a vehicle and hold a valid personal drivers license. 7) The Director must reside in Great Bend or within a 10-mile radius of Great Bend.
