Job Vacancy – Department Head, Cataloging and Collection Management. Responsible for managing the Technical Services Department in a small public library, including ordering, acquisitions, cataloging, and processing materials for the collection. The successful candidate will exhibit broad knowledge of library tools, systems, and resources in public libraries, familiarity with integrated library systems, with strong communications skills (oral and written), excellent attention to details, and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with other staff.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association-accredited program, plus supervisory experience and a minimum of three years of applicable library experience.

West Baton Rouge Parish Library is a small public library serving a population of approximately 25,000 residents of the parish through one library, a bookmobile, and an outreach van. West Baton Rouge Parish is directly across the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge, offering a relaxed environment with the amenities of a large metropolitan area. The library offers 105,000 items, state-of-the-art technology including 23 public computers, an assistive technology workstation, and a meeting room complete with 87” interactive SmartBoard, polycom conference telephone, flat-screen TV, and other equipment for public use.

Job Summary:

Supervise three employees. Verify and order library materials through online resources, by direct order, or by standing order. Maintain authority database, standing order file, and memorial/gift file. Supervise copy cataloging, provide original cataloging, data entry, and processing of materials for the library collection. Transition from AACR2 to RDA cataloging. Responsible for corrections, updates, re-entry, withdrawal, etc., of existing materials as needed. Process “lost and paid/lost and not paid” materials. Supervise bindery process. Provide and maintain procedures for cataloging. Monitor supplies and equipment for department. Perform other related duties as required. Schedule is 40 hours per week, including weekdays, Saturdays on a rotating basis, and the possibility of occasional evenings. Requires bending, stooping, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds, and pushing a loaded booktruck up to 200 pounds to/from adjacent building.

Salary Range: $40,400 – $65,807 depending upon education and experience.
