Salary: Grade 6, Point 31, £31,332 pro rata

Overview:
This is a six month fixed term post and the post holder will be based at Jaguar Land Rover Research, Coventry, CV4 7AL. The position is initially available only for six months but there is potential for a long term position to be employed by Jaguar Land Rover Limited.
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) PLC is an automotive group with two automotive brands: Jaguar and Land Rover. Key revenue generating activity of JLR is the design, manufacture and sale of Jaguar, Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles. JLR has 20000 employees in the UK alone and tens of thousands within its supply chain. JLR has a significant presence in West Midlands with the majority of its manufacturing and the entire research and development situated in the region.

Role:

The position’s focus will be on machine learning, data mining, text mining and information retrieval, particularly on unsupervised information extraction and aggregation. The successful candidate will work alongside one of the Jaguar LandRover Research teams and will be supported by Coventry University in order to develop a novel data/text mining software taking advantage of multiple on-car and off-car data sources.

Requirements:

The successful candidate should have a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computational linguistics or a closely related area. Excellent programming skills are important as well as an understanding of data, text mining and machine learning techniques. A good math background is a plus.
Desirable skills:
· Good knowledge of machine learning techniques
· Strong mathematical skills
· Experience with large scale data processing (e.g. Hadoop/Mahout)
· Expertise in natural language processing and information extraction
· Strong programming skills
· Good written and spoken communication skills in English.
